Memories: Mumford , How fun to find this page ! The names bring back great memories and I am so glad the same environment still continues . We recently moved to New England in the fall so I hope to take my family up for a visit . I was an HR mgr in NYC and now run a non profit animal sanctuary and raise my son and daughter on our 10 acre farm with my husband John .
I loved it all , from dances with the scouts to the walks home from vespers , to the tale of mona and sages that never failed to scare the crap out me !!!! The competition , the friends , the special holidays it is a lifetime memory you never lose and I still hold those so strongly in my mind especially in the summer months when I see canoers or sailors . Good friends from all over create the most important memories however visits to the Silver Ranch and Christmas in July were pretty awesome . Sleepy Hollow really felt like the holidays ironically in July ! Council Fire had to be the best though , from start to finish you were so energized by the spirit of green and white tribes and even the walk home to your bunk after was charged with the fear of mona and sages jumping out of the lake . I look forward to my daughter attending when she is old enough and my son if you go co-ed !!! Erin

Hey fellow campers. I LOVED Waklo. I used to "live" in Side Out 1 and 2. I was a HUGE gymnast and horseback rider. I loved being in the gymnastics meet at the end of the summer and the horse show. I placed 3rd in one of the meets and won best all around rider for Lower Camp in the Horse Show (I rode Morgana in that). Those are 2 of my best memories.
I loved council fire. Do they still give out beads and patches? My favorite counselor was Leslie Rehagen (although we lost touch about 18 yrs ago).
If anyone out there went to camp at this time I would love to hear from you. 2 of my old bunk mates where Shari Simon (from Framingham, MASS) and Kara Naughton (from NY).
A few gymnasts I remember are Katie Treadwell, Allison?? (forgot her last name too) and Sarah?? (forgot hers too).
I'd love to hear from campers who camped when I did. =)

Another summer is here and my memories of camp still flood my head. I even got to see one of my first counselors this spring, Kathy Cocoman. We relived many a happy day along with Ina Fletcher when they came to the D.C. area to look for those special ones to go to Wa-Klo. To those who knew me from age six through big chief, keep me posted on what is up. My sisters, Debbie and Sarah both live in Florida, one on each coast. We talk about camp frequently. Happy memories to all the Wa-Klo girls out there.

Quite a blast from the past looking through the names here. One of my favorite Wa-Klo reminiscences is the music...Wa-klo girl, Dona, Happy Times, Dear Camp Wa-Klo (With "Anchors Aweigh" in the backround), This is table number..., A boy and a girl in a little canoe, etc. Anyone out there have any other favorites form the 60's and 70's? What was the song that Suzanne Elson wrote? Ellen Cirona (mid 70's) and I still annoy friends when we break into Wa-Klo song, and keep going and going. We have a blast. I hope you are all well. Hopefully my six year old will be off to Thorndyke Pond in a few summers. And if anyone remebers my big sisters Jane and Katie, they are both just fine:)

I just checked the web-site and was so excited to see so many names I recognized. Daryl and I saw Kathy and Ina in February when they were in our area doing camp recruiting. It was so much fun to see them. I still think of camp often and all the great times we had. Summers were just perfect at Wa-Klo. I have visions of my daughter there in a few years...

The first memory that comes to mind when I think of Wa-Klo is of my cabin mate and the ripped suit incident. We were at water-skiing, and I was sitting on the dock, waiting my turn to put on those skis and try to go around the lake. My cabin mate, however, was on the boat because she had already tried, and unfortunately, was unsucessful. She was brought back to the dock.
Casually, she lifted one leg over the side of the boat. The side of her bathing suit got caught on the cleat on that side of the motor boat. She did not notice this. So, she lifted the other leg over the side of the boat. Her bathing suit ripped splendidly from the leg up to the seam.
The counselors on the boat burst out laughing and one shouted, "I can see your butt!" My cabin mate also started to laugh as she realized what had happened. Luckily, it was the end of the period, and she fled the water skiing dock.
For two weeks, she was banished to her civies bathing suit, a pink-and-white bikini. When passing her wearing this absured bathing suit, people who heard of this incident, would shout things like "I like your Wa Klo green bathing suit." She was doomed till the end of the session.

My best memories: So Many! I remember how proud I was when I got my yellow bead at Council Fire, the Green & White tribe wars, and the first time I swam out to the big float. I remember a girl named Mary Ann who played the piano and we all sang in the dining room... Also, the girl who played the trumpet for flag raising & everything else... I remember the last night when we sang "1969 at Camp Waklo, no other year the same, every girl a comard true, whatever be her name or fame..." and they lit the numbers on fire out on the little float... The dances when the boy scouts came and we were all so nervous... the trips to Silver Ranch, canoeing out to Sagee's Island, climing Monadnock... Parents weekend... it was all so fantastic, I still even remember the hokey songs we sang like "A Wa-klo Girl"... what a great experience!

my fondest memory of camp was when i mad up a dance with jenny stern we worked so hard on it because we just were never together and would always mess up and we finally got it and performed it in front of the whoel camp it was exciting that we had actually done it because we thought we were horrible and were so nervous we were sooooo relieved at the end.
