Camp WaKlo’s lesson program focuses on English riding with an emphasis on balanced seat equitation, jumping and basic dressage. On the first day of classes all riders take part in a horse safety orientation.

Each rider is interviewed about her riding experience. Those campers with prior experience are given a riding test to determine their riding level and horse suitability. Riders are then assigned horses that will suit their size and riding ability. From this point on riders progress at their own pace in small classes with an emphasis on learning proper, safe riding skills, self confidence and trust in their mount while having fun. In addition to riding, campers will learn how to saddle and bridle a horse as well as how to groom it. Staff members discuss what each girl wishes to accomplish with her riding and together they set attainable goals for each rider to strive for during her summer at camp. At the end of each month campers will have the opportunity to show off their skills at our monthly horse shows. Everyone wins a ribbon! For many campers, one period of riding is simply not enough. Campers may opt to take more than one period of riding (extra fee applies).

All riders must wear proper attire when riding. This includes a certified ASTM/SEI riding helmet, long pants, jodhpurs or breeches, jodhpur or tall boots.
