Gabby Bonavire – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: Studying biology at the University of Delaware.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I recently moved to Palm City, Florida from Boston, MA. This will be my 12th summer at Wa-klo but second as a counselor. You will find me hitting on the tennis courts or driving the boat for waterskiing. I can’t wait for summer 2017 and to meet all the new campers and staff!

What is she doing now: I’m currently finishing up my senior year of high school and I’m excited to start college this fall.
Tell us a bit about yourself: This is my 12th summer at Wa-Klo, and my 2nd as a counselor. I’m currently 18, but I turn 19 at the beginning of camp, and I look forward to spending my birthday at Wa-Klo! Also, I teach swimming so you can usually find me by the water. I’m super excited for this summer and I can’t wait to see old friends and meet new ones!
Emily Cruickshank – Activity Counselor
From: Glasgow, Scotland
What is she doing now: I’m a student in my 3rd year at the University of Glasgow, studying History. I also have a part time job in a supermarket, and I volunteer with a local Brownie unit!
Tell us a bit about yourself: Hey everyone! I absolutely loved my first summer at Wa-Klo last year, and I am so so so excited to come back and see you all again (and meet new people too)! Here in Glasgow, I spend most of my time at work and studying, but when I have any free time, I love going on mini road trips with my friends, and exploring beautiful places – none as beautiful as Thorndike Pond though! I’m really excited to go back to camp life, being out on the boats, and generally seeing you all have lots of fun and achieving amazing things…see you soon!
Kathryn Eccles – Activity Counselor
From: I am from the UK, grew up in Lincolnshire but currently living and studying in Newcastle.
What is she doing now: I’m studying Dentistry at Newcastle University, and in my spare time I row A LOT. When I’m not training or studying, my friends and I love taking trips to the beach or exploring new places – I especially love traveling and can’t wait to have my first experience of an American Summer Camp.
Tell us a bit about yourself: Having grown up in a small village in the Lincolnshire countryside with my parents and younger sister, I really enjoy being outside and taking every opportunity to do exciting and adventurous things with my friends and family, particularly camping and hiking. I enjoy a wide range of sports and love trying out new activities, but am a particularly avid fan of anything near water – I even swam the English channel as part of a relay when I was 12! My favourite colour is yellow, which is rather fitting as my friends have described me as being like the mr men character ‘little miss sunshine’ as I am always so cheerful.
Sian Elliott – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: I am currently in my first year of studying Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I am a 19 year old female from the small island of Ireland. Water sports are my main hobbies, be it wake-boarding, sailing or kayaking. I love meeting new people and making unforgettable memories!
Aimee Friel – Activity Counselor
From: Kirkintilloch, a small town just outside of Glasgow in Scotland
What is she doing now: I’m studying dance at college full time and keeping busy with part time teaching projects also.
Tell us a bit about yourself: When I’m not dancing all day I like to relax by meeting up with friends or watching my favourite TV show, “One Tree Hill.” I also like reading “The Secret” books. They’re great! They are all about positive mindset, changing the way that you think. I live at home with my parents and my twin sister. It will be my first time being without my family for a full summer so I’m a little scared, but I can’t wait to get started, it will be an adventure!
Maren Ganshirt – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: I finished my studies of economics in March in this year. Before I will come to the USA, I am going to travel to Indonesia for a few weeks.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I love to spend my free time with family and friends. During the weekdays I like to do sports or go to the cinema with my friends. On the weekends I work in a childcare center in a sports center. I would describe myself as a helpful, humorous and empathic person.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I have just finished my first year of university in England. My main hobbies include; fencing, dancing and cooking. I love being outdoors and having fun with my friends. I’m very excited for camp this summer and can’t wait to meet you all.

What is she doing now: I am third year Law Student and I work in part-time at Camaieu. When I am not studying or working I usually spend my time with my sister’s children.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I am a Law student in Budapest, at the capital of Hungary. I like doing sports, reading books in my free-time and of course spending time with my friends. We usually plan trips to countries nearby Hungary. I was a dancer earlier. I did dance Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll. We travelled through Europe for different competitions. Nevertheless I am addicted of different cuisines. I visited various countries with amazing cuisines.
Blair Isken – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: I am a rising sophomore at Bucknell University!
Tell us a bit about yourself: In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing and re-watching my favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls. I also love to go on drives with my friends and play the radio. I listen to all types of music, especially 60’s, but my favorite band is Florence + The Machine. But my absolute favorite thing is photography! I love to take portraits of my friends, of landscapes- basically anything that catches my eye!

What is she doing now: I currently run pre school and after school kids activity clubs!
Tell us a bit about yourself: I like to think of myself as being super friendly, caring and full of energy- all of which I will bring to my 6th summer at camp! I can’t wait to get back to camp and have another incredible summer. My role is to organize the program for the girls- to make it an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to share all of the new exciting ideas i have gained from my job this winter. I love the outdoors and living 5 minutes from the beach in England is pretty cool. See you all soon 🙂
Kelsey (KJ) Johnson – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: I am a student at the University of Central Arkansas studying Kinesiology and PE K-12, Exercise & Sport Science. I played Division 1 soccer for 4 years and was a captain for 2. I coach soccer at Arkansas United Soccer Club in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am currently a physical education intern at Springhill Elementary and Perryville High School.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I have played soccer for 17 years and love coaching. Having lived in Texas my whole life, I was never exposed to mountains. While in college, I discovered my passion for hiking as well as mountains in general. I want to hike the highest peak in every state before I turn 30 (those that I can’t hike I just want to see them in person). I love John Denver, Mexican food, llamas/alpacas, and all things farm grown.

I am the middle child with one older and one younger sister (the youngest is attending Wa-Klo this summer!). I love watching football, traveling, and exploring different restaurants. I can’t wait to meet everyone and have an awesome summer!!

What is she doing now: I am a School Nurse.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I enjoy spending time outdoors. I love hiking and finding new trails and adventures. I enjoy reading and crocheting during my leisure time as well.

What is she doing now: I study speech pathology at the University of Warsaw, I work in the Canadian School of Warsaw as a speech pathologist and I teach swimming to children.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I’m Grazyna and I’m 23. I study and I work. In my free time I like to swim and go out with my friends. The thing that I like the most is windsurfing- I always wait for summer when it will be possible to go and windsurf.

What is she doing now: I am currently studying Fine Art, I’m in my first year and am hoping to go on and become an Art Therapist. Aside from college life I am busy sailing, horse riding, swimming and hiking/walking.

What is she doing now: Nannying for a family I’ve been with off and on for the last four years. I’ve just bought my first flat so loving making that feel like home.
Tell us a bit about yourself: This will be my 8th summer working on the waterfront at Wa-Klo (can’t get enough). I live right by the beach in Sunny Bournemouth and love spending as much time there as I can, whether it is Kayaking or Longboarding its my 2nd favourite place to be (Wa-Klo is obviously 1st). Can’t wait to be back in my favourite place.

What is she doing now: I’m currently in my 3rd year of university studying Business. However, I mostly spend my time wishing I was back on Thorndike Pond rather than in the rain in Scotland!
Tell us a bit about yourself: I am a bit of a geek as I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, Disney, Sherlock and so much more! There’s nothing I love more than being a big kid and that’s why I’m super excited to head back to camp this summer! I also work in Pizza Hut and have been named our stores ‘Funniest Hutter’ 2 years in a row so you all better be ready to hear some of my terrible jokes. In my time off from uni and work I love going to the theatre, seeing my friends and trying new things. I can’t wait to get back to camp this summer to see all the old and new faces and make epic memories together!

What is she doing now: I’ve been travelling since October and so far have been to America, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, India and have now landed in Nepal. I have also completed a months cookery course in Somerset.

I am going to be studying business in September at a College in Oxford and then I hope to find employment in London. I loved playing lacrosse and hockey at school and I have been dancing since I was 3.

Tell us a bit about yourself: This will be my 11th summer at camp, and after not being there last summer, I am so ready to be back! I love the water, and you can catch me on the ski boats, sailing around Sages island, or on a kayak adventure! You can also find me singing and dancing in Roy-Kit because there is nothing better than a good camp song. I also love dogs, pizza, traveling, hiking, swimming–anything outside really! What is she doing now: I’m at University in Coventry studying Graphic Design
Tell us a bit about yourself: When I’m not working hard on my University course, I’m either spending time with my family or horse riding with my university team at various local competitions. This will be my first summer working at a camp and excited is an understatement! The thought of spending my whole summer in America working with kids and horses is just perfect. I really can’t wait!
Ronja Weiblen – Activity Counselor

What is she doing now: Missing my camp life of course! Other than that I am in my 4th year of studying Neurocognitive Psychology and I work as a research assistant at the Center of Brain, Behavior and Metabolism.
Tell us a bit about yourself: Apart from university and work I am quite active and enjoy hanging out with my friends. After camp last year I started playing Ultimate Frisbee in my university team and (of course!) I am in love with swimming. I started teaching swimming to refugees here in Lübeck, which is super fun! My friends and I like cooking together and we love our weekly Doppelkopf evening (a popular German card game).
